We have never done it before........

Today during a professional conversation with a staff of the University regarding the launching of a new course, the person, told me "We have never done this before at the University......"

Ooopsssss......I was stunned by this statement. We are in a University and this is exactly the place according to me 'to try out things that have never been done before....'

When an idea makes sense it is worth exploring it, if it does not we abandon it...this forms the basis from which we can nurture our creativity and bring innovation and not the way round.....

This is not about resistance to change mind you, but this is mainly about obsolete software (mindset).

Learning new things and inculcate it to other people afterward is a practice that has been carried out since centuries. If we were always scared to experiment in new fields, discoveries wouldn’t have been done and life wouldn’t have existed as it is. Airplanes would not have been existed!
As a science student (in science we have the principle to always think of possibilities of further discoveries and try experiments during which we try to falsify our point of view), I do believe that we should continue to try things that were never done before even thought the results may not be always good since we learn from our errors. Making judgment like we have never done this before and having negative feels before starting a task will hinder progress of humanity.

  4. “When an idea makes sense, it is worth exploring it, if it does not, we abandon it.”

I would have to agree to this statement because it is very logic for one to elaborate on an interesting idea but also ignore it if it is pointless. When we set our minds to something (an idea), it triggers all sorts of information that can construct the idea into a meaningful purpose that can be put to action. Another term that we can refer to is mindset. Mindset determines how a person’s mind works. It is all about decisions. In the context of the blog, the staff of the university mentioned that they have never carried forward such an idea before. This allows them to elaborate on the idea, using mindset as their ‘source of information’ and the beliefs and qualities that they aspire.

  5. In my opinion, if someone has a great idea (dream) he/she must work towards it to make it comes to life (positive mindset) as without a proper mindset it is hard to get anywhere in life. Positivity in my opinion is the cornerstone to achieving all great things and thus brings innovations to the surroundings. If you do not go into a situation with a positive attitude, most of the time you’re going to get a negative outcome. It is often said that, Dreams without action are just delusion.

  7. No one would actually be astonished by the statement in the first paragraph if ever the person making that statement was not a staff of the university. Being a staff, he/she should be aware that besides providing tertiary education, a university has further roles to play in the development of a country’s economy by making experiences, proving hypotheses, developing new technology in various fields.

I fully agree with the second paragraph suggesting the university as the right place to carry out testing on new and innovative way of doing things in a more efficient and effective manner. One could say why choosing the university for such activities and not some kind of special centres or whatsoever. The simple and rational reason would be because of the pool of (expert) knowledge which can be gathered at the university from diversified grounds.

From history we cannot deny the fact that major discoveries and new inventions have been carried out in universities all around the globe. An unexplored idea might be a stick in the wheel of progress and must therefore never be allowed to be wasted without giving it a try.

It is true that the human nature in itself is such that man fears the unknown and are risk-averse but would we be sitting in front of our computer sharing our knowledge, views and ideas with so many people around the globe if in 1936 Konrad Zuse did not go forward with his idea and did not invent the “First freely programmable computer, Z1 Computer”.

There should always be people ready to take risk to be able to achieve something out of nothing but an idea!

  8. My dear friend ibrahimrassool,

having an idea is one thing, whether be it brilliant or not is to be decided by what you do to achieve it, who are those who share your views and are ready to jump on this tour of materialising your idea!

And if ever it does materialise, is it really going to be unanimously be accepted by the majority of the targeted population. If YES, then I think we can say that it was really a brilliant idea but not beforehand!

Forcing your idea on others with the belief that your idea is a brilliant one is not really the essence of having recourse to the facilities that one can obtain from a university.

  9. Life is full of experiences. Sometime it is wise to try out new things in order to discover new ideas. Trying thing that has always given life a chance to come out of boredom because new results are awaited with enticement. Experiences are very important in life because a life without experiences is an incomplete one, whether good or bad. From both good and bad experiences we learn a great deal of things.

  10. First of all, I think that it is necessary to take risks in life to reach a concrete goal. And when an idea makes sense, it is worth exploring it so that raise our creativity and bring innovation (the creation of better or more effective technologies, or ideas that are accepted by markets, governments, and society) in our neighborhood and around the world.
Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems. That is the challenge posed for innovative young people participating in the ninth annual Imagine Cup in New York. The event, which runs through Wednesday, is billed as the world’s premier student technology competition, is hosted by the Microsoft Corporation.
Math student David Hayden is legally blind. He can see the screen on a computer tablet, but not the blackboard to take notes during class. He and his fellow students at Arizona State University came up with a solution - a portable swivel-head camera and software program that allows David to see blackboard writing or distant objects on the left side of his tablet. He can take notes on the right. Hayden says there are 20 million Americans with low vision, but only 40 percent of them fully participate in the work force.

"We believe the inaccessibility of education is in large part to blame for that, and so by equipping them with assistive technology that allows them to take their own notes in the same amount of time and the same ease as their fully-sighted peers, we believe it will provide them with better access to education, income and quality of life," Hanson said.
The example above clearly shows that anything is possible in life. Although an idea has never been explored, it worth being led.

  11. Education never end, it is the continuous learning and grasping of new ideas, thoughts, knowledge and judgment. The teaching body shall by new means upgrade our educational system to “let’s try it, it new!” I may not criticize the old educational system but tutoring should be all about innovation, modernism and improvement. Teachers shall use their creativity to settle new ideas instead of always abiding to the forever going old mindset. Inspiration, I assume have helped loads of our fellow lecturers to carry out their duty as educational ‘gurus’.

  12. Dear Sawar I totally agree with your concept of positive thinking because without the enthusiasm and of course the inner feeling that ‘we can do it’; we cannot achieve anything in life. It is one of the essential ingredients in the final recipe of success in turning our dreams into reality and shares it with humanity!

My friend Dharvesh, I’m as astonished as you when I read that it was a staff of the University of Mauritius; one of the most prestigious institution in the country though so. The lack of enthusiasm in that person to try a new thing is really deceiving because it is these people who must be the one trying to discover new things and not be hesitant. And can we expect to gain much knowledge from these kinds of people to meet the real demand of the world; apart from the theories found in book? Would we be taught always the same theories and be bored without trying to go beyond this as Pooja said? That is the question!

  13. Its all a question of taking a risk. But as Mother Theresa said “the greatest risk in life is not taking any risk.” It depends on our mindset. We are reluctant to do what we’ve never done afraid of the result and consequences. We ask ourselves a lot of questions: “should I do it? What will people think about it? What if I fail?...” yet unless we develop some hypothesis and work it out we never know we if we might be discovering the cure of the incurable.
Many great things were discovered by mistake or by curiosity. So we should never abandon any idea. As Thomas Edison said: “I have not failed 1000 times, I will say I have discovered 1000 ways that cause failures.” Someone who has never made any mistake has never tried something new

  14. I would like to continue this debate by one of the world greatest person's words; Steve Jobs.
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition."

This tells you that if you continue to live other people's life, in their way, then the change will never take place. Innovation will never occur. So, like this great personality in the field of informatics has rightly mentioned, let make the difference and move the directions that earlier people has not dared to go.

  15. If people never think and try to innovate, so the world round us today we would be still hunting.

So in order to develop our own self, we must try to imagine, think, propose and try to implement things so as to move forward. Else, we will be moving round.

Therefore, that's why today people are experimenting and will continue to do so. Since this will show its benefits afterwards.

  16. "We have never done it before........"
there are many things in life that we have not done before, for instances, everyone has to go for the SC and HSC exams for the first time. so if we think that we have not done it before, we don't do it??????? it is surprising that a University of Mauritius is responding like that. we have to try and see if it is really working and if then we stop it but not making a conclusion like "We have never done it before........"

  17. The statement that person made makes him sound so foolish and stupid!

Do we even realize that had we not "tried things out" we would be living in the primitive world?Everything we possess has been a product of "trying things out".

Discovering new things is the basis of our lives- otherwise imagine how boring living would become!

As Ravi Luckhun has said above "Life is like an experiment...". And as you all know, an experiment is conducted by trying something new.

The statement this particular person shows how unworthy he is of being at the University of Mauritius. A person who is not ready to accept new ideas or try new things out is a person who is like a tumor in the brain.

  18. What is expected at university level is to be able to think out of the box and to innovate. We are past our secondary days where there was a well-defined ‘’learn-by-heart’’ school program imposed on us with external exams and all, now we are expected to think in a different way so as to get rid of all these ready made conceptions and to challenge one’s mind!
Everything has a beginning and every idea is worth pondering! If not, Graham Bell would have never invented the telephone only because no one had ever done that before him. Doing things differently not only helps us to see things differently but also helps us to broaden our knowledge. Lack of imagination and of innovative skills is practically unacceptable in today’s time as this is what is meant by evolution.

  19. Always try to do something beyond our knowledge, that is what I call Learning is.
We must not be afraid to learn and always try to do our best even if it is hard in order to learn new things. This will enable us to be more mature and more creative. We will develop a more critical and analytical skills.
There is the fact that the world is changing and I'm not saying that we should change also but we should adapt ourselves to the new technologies and new gadgets and this course definitely enable us to gain the knowledge and this will help us now and later when we will enter the world of work.
Learning gives us a meaning to our dull life. Always try to do something new will add color to your life and when you will obtain success, you will eat the fruit that you have sowed, that mean by making efforts and never be afaid to learn.

  20. It is indeed very shocking that a university staff would refuse to adopt a new concept.
Having a growth mindset means that you believe your personality, skills and traits can be changed. You believe that experience and practice count for a lot more than your genetics. You might think about all the things you’ve learned during your life – and all the times you have started off as a total beginner only to become really good at something. Let’s take a deeper look why understanding mindset of people is so important in any field. As I am a Marketing Management student I must take into great consideration that before developing a marketing strategy for any business, i must set strategies with respect to the customer mindset.
well,if ancient civilisation did not try to change their mindset,i guess we would still be hunting in thick forest. If Steeve Jobs did not try to change his mindset and continue being creative in his endeavour, apple would certainly not be where it is today.

The world is changing day after day and I’m not saying that we should also change but we should adapt ourselves to the new technologies and new gadgets. So, we should learn and gain knowledge how to master these things. We should act like a program, always ready to be update when new version of the program has come, that is we should learn how to deal and manipulate these new technologies.
New challenges always make us afraid but we should overcome this and you will see how exciting it is to learn new things. So what people say is true that learning makes perfect. Nothing can go wrong and nothing will go wrong if you learn with confidence, so do not lose hope dear friends when you are learning something new. Learning gives an aim to our dull life; experiencing new things add colors to it and the success we obtain fill us with joy.

  22. To sawar,
Yes it’s true that everyone should work hard towards their dreams in order not to make it a delusion. However there are some people who dream to do something but situation stop them from doing so. Even if these people have a positive mindset, it’s quite hard for them to achieve whatever they want. They might also have the urge to fulfill their dreams, have new experiences; new ideas but situation might not allow them. But I encourage each and everyone never stop dreaming and do all they can to realize it. Realizing a dream is something really wonderful.

  23. That’s right Dharvesh,
University is one of the best places to try out new things and as u have said many discoveries and inventions have come to life there and that have changed our lives and the world in which we live. So I totally agree that new things should be carried out even if poor results are obtained at the end which is really rare because we discover new things during the experiments and try to upgrade it more.

  25. We have never done it before
Learning new things and applying them to our mode of living is itself an achievement. Our creativity and a positive mindset is what make us unique. Everyone nurtures ideas, but only those can mark their existence by making those ideas feasible. If you are scared to make new discoveries, and at the first stance itself if you say that you have never done it before, believe me or not with this mindset, you will never be able to make a change. With the least disappointment you face, you will surely back off. Perseverance and a positive mindset will reward you with success in your endeavor.
We have never done this before but nothing stops us from doing it now.

We surround ourselves with people who are fascinated by filmmaking in its many forms and in doing so we constantly learn, unlearn, and relearn.

  28. Ravi luckhun, I have the same opinion about your concept of life as an experiment. In fact one is eager to try new things and to adventure in new fields. Yes, imagine life without the new technologies we would be living a prehistoric life. So one should try, obtain results, give his opinions then conclude.

  29. i agree with Melissa, being creative is of utmost important in this volatile world.
In a perfect world, the most creative and innovative ideas would have an easy time getting funded, while all of the flawed business concepts would quickly fall by the wayside. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world: we live in Mauritius, a place where even the “next big thing” can have trouble lining up money.
Being creative is indeed what distinguishes you from the mass. Thus, having an evolving mindset is the key to success.

  30. I personally think that new ideas are very important if we really want to advance and to improve ourselves. Learning, is a life long process wherby new ideas and new ways of improving ourselves and our lives are possible. Instead of being septical about the intoduction of new ideas and concepts teachers should accept these and through them try to improve their way of teaching and at the same time make learning a more challenging and enthusiastic experience. In order to learn things we should be eager to discover and learn new things. To be able to do so, we should open ourselves to the world and to its rapid advances and changes. We should be open-minded and not have pre-conceived ideas to be able to advance in life.

  31. This statement seems to be a pessimistic one. People should be positive in life. Even though we have never done it before, we should try things out. It’s only by trying that we can see things to improve. For instance, at the tertiary level we cannot permit ourselves to say that we have never done it before because others will take a greater step and we will lack behind. It’s only by trying that we can enrich our knowledge and be creative. Life is full of risks, uncertainties and challenges and we should abide to these to be successful and achieve our goals.

  32. Excuses such as “we have never done it before… ” are an easy way to justify why something cannot be done. Finding a justification for an existing situation, obstacle, or challenge removes oneself from any guilt and responsibility for the outcome. The difference between people who succeed and those who don't is that successful people never make excuses, they overcome. Even though we have never done it before, we should try things out to see the outcome of our actions. Education is a continuous learning process and we should always try new things to be successful.

  35. Taking chances, risks are obviously worth it! That is what life is about, according to me. To try out new innovative things and never regretting our decisions because we know it was decisions taken by us and no one else. Also, as Pooja has said, "Experiences are very important in life because a life without experiences is an incomplete one, whether good or bad. From both good and bad experiences we learn a great deal of things."
We need to reflect on this as trying out new experiences, we can gain a great deal of maturity as well as knowledge that we can share with others and yes, we learn a lot from our experiences, whether learning from our previous mistakes or deciding to continue on the same path as we did before, as an inspiration.
Nishita has also made a very good point by saying that education never end. Everyday new things are being created and why not use our creativity by achieving great things for the better?

One example is our module educational technologies which is an online course. This kind of teaching method is new but already it has a lot of success.

Like a "scientist" we should always be eager to try do new things in life and not to be happy with what we already have. I totally agree with the fact our educational system should absolutely be upgraded. Teachers should use their artistic ability to introduce innovative courses which has not yet been introduced. I believe maybe it is because of lack in infrastructure or because cost factors that such course are unavailable at the university. The architectural courses for instance is unavailable at the university, however there are a lot of people who are being unable to accomplish their wish of following such a course in Mauritius. I believe that this particular course should be introduced at the university; this will be a revolution..

New and different experiences are both good and bad but both help us live a more educated and productive life and teach you to deal with those situations and make you the person you are.

    ReplyDelete
  55. We have never done it before…
From the day we are born to the day we die, we never stop learning and discovering new things. Reading the first line , I can easily make a picture of that staff who clearly is not use at all to changes and innovations. We are not living in the stone- age period. We are in the year 2011, a time where technology has become the main source for an easy life. We should move on with innovations and take out evrything productive ideas from our mind and to make it become reality. The statement from the 2nd paragraph leaves me perplexed, as I really can’t imagine how could the person say that university is the best place to try out new things. Be it in any corner of the world at any time we can experiment new things and invent new things because our brain is always with us.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Every new thing is prone to raise heated and passionate debates. However the new idea should not be dropped without at least trying. In every field of life experiments are being carried out to see whether the new concept is correct and effective. It is foolishness to say 'We have never done it before........'. If the mindset of every scientist was like this staff, then we would have been lacked behind. Education is an on-going process so it's worth trying out new things in life, especially in the field of education where we have a platform like the university.

  57. My reply to the comments of Dharvesh
Dharvesh you are absolutely right when you are pointing out to the staff but I partly diasgree with your comments concerning the second paragraph. As I have already said it you do not have to be at a specific place to come out with new ideas and inventions..it can be done anywhere and anytime. For example, in the kitchen at home while cooking you want to experience a new taste you just make it out at that time, you do not take the advise of any chef. But you are also right when you say you get a large pool of knowledge from experts. However you must not forget that having too much can also be of a big disadvantage. Evryone has his own opinion and to choose out the best opinion from all these EXPERTS is quite a difficult tasks. Else all your views are justified and I agree with them.

  58. I completely agree with Nishita. Education never ends. It is indeed surprising to know that in the 21st century, the staff of a university is not willing to promote new courses.
As Ravi Luckhun mentioned, “life is like an experiment”.
We got to try new things in order to know the true results. It might be positive or negative, but it worth trying to introduce the new course as it might be a subject of interest for other students.I would say Progress might involve risks, but it’s worth trying it.

  59. New experience in life is important. We should always try to bring changes in everything we do in order to overcome boredom in our life. Indeed this statement is very true: ‘When an idea makes sense it is worth exploring it, if it does not we abandon it’.
Trying new things enable us to shape ourselves and help us to develop our creativity positively which also bring new dimension in whatever we do.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I agree with you there Nishita.Teaching should be all about innovation, modernism and improvement. This is a way to improve learning and stimulate the students’ interest in the subject being taught.

  61. I believe that the idea of trying new things brings about self-improvement in an individual. Thus trying out new things is a very healthy way of perceiving life. So why should it become a question when concerned with tertiary education?
Instead one must change his or her mindset and take it as a challenge and go ahead. If he or she do not succeed, it is not a big deal. At the end, he or she will definitely learn something and this is more important!

    ReplyDelete
  62. “We have never done it before...” is not justifiable because there is always a first time! If everyone in this world would have thought like this, then no inventions or scientific discoveries would ever have been made. Humans are the one of the rare species that have a highly developed brain and hence can explore and develop solutions. We should all use this ability to try things that have never been tried before and in this way, we can achieve something out of nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  63. My opinion: I do believe that we make progress by successfully trying new experiments at different stages of life. Risks are there to be taken but this is life and its rule. To improve the education level of a country, more of its population must be educated to a higher degree and to help reaching there, the introduction of a new course will only provide more options and more opportunities.
I completely agree with this: “When an idea makes sense it is worth exploring it ...” Surely, success is not assured but the risks can be taken. In the best case, we will benefits by acquiring more of creativeness and promote innovation. But the fact remains that it can also be a failure and this failure will only affect the students’ participating in the course, because their future depends on it. Since it will be a new course there won’t be many references to the lectures, exams papers...and so on.

  64. Education is a life-learning process. Everyday we learn something new. We are bound to get new ideas and in order to implement these ideas, we have to take risks. It is only then that we will whether it is right or wrong. throughout the process, we learn many things and derive conclusions.

    ReplyDelete
  65. In today’s world, it has become a “necessity” for everyone to learn more and more in order to become familiar to the recent technology. The concept of “we have never done it before” must, however, not discourage people in knowing new things. Indeed, keeping in touch with the actual activities and discoveries will allow people to enrich their knowledge. In my opinion, I believe that the world can only progress through new researches and experimenting new concepts.
Indeed, all this can be achieved through the positive mindset of the people. In order to reach its goal in life, one must take risk. There is no need to be afraid or to hesitate, as trying new concepts or experiments does not lower our knowledge but indeed, it improves our intelligence.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Dear Nishita, I totally agreed with what you said. The phrase “education never ends” allows people to learn new things throughout their life. If one wants to succeed in life, new innovative ideas should be taken into consideration.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Like goes the quotes “Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity - not a threat”
I believe that this quote is especially for this staff. First of all, it is sad to hear something like this coming from a University staff. One among the main functions of a university is to innovate. Every day, there are many researches going on for the sole purpose of innovating.
Innovation has always been a great thing to mankind even though it has often led to failure. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. Bill Gates, for example, one among the richest man on earth, at first his business was a failure. While this early idea didn't work, Gates' later work did, creating the global empire that is Microsoft. This is only and example among the many more successful people.
Therefore, I can conclude saying that innovation is in fact a very good thing and one should not be afraid of failing because failure is far from being a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Shurvina R, i agree fully where you say "In order to reach its goal in life, one must take risk". This is really true because as said it's better to try and fail than to fail to try.
By learning, knowledge is gained through experience which leads to change in behavior. Besides, learning is a lifelong process where new things are discovered. So even if "we have never done it before", we should be positive when trying something new and be encouraged to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Learning first of all means acquiring new or modifying existing knowledge, skills etc. It is by experimenting/exploring new ideas that our field of knowledge increases, that is, we learn new things.
Learning is a process which occurs continuously through a person’s lifetime, Instead of limiting our knowledge, or abiding always to old mindset or way of teaching or learning, it is better to experiment new horizon.

  70. The world is subject to a perpetual change ,whether be it our personal or educational life .If we, as youngsters do not take the first step to change the old system and implement newer more profitable measures then the question which arises is what have we actually got from our years of studies in a university which is mean to be a pool of knowledge and experience.Universities' aim is not only to produce graduates but to develop the persona of the studies .If we as being the future of a country do not employ our creativity then where are we really heading to?Creativity and innovation should be encouraged but concerning the staff , there is ambiguity because they fear that failure on our part will bring in bad name to the institution and what if we excel did they think about it ?we all have to fall to be able to rise again ,then it depends on us to see if we are willing or not to take the risk to do new things or suppress our desires and wishes just because "We have never done it before..." Ppeople have to change there mindset to be able to advance with new things if we remain backwards life will just slip out of our hands and we will never know what happened .Education starts in the womb and ends in the tomb , we should keep on innovating ,learning and discovering to have a meaningful life .we have to make the purpose of our lives be a life of purpose by living it ,taking risks daring to dream and daring to use our brains

So inorder to be able to cope with the fast forwarding environment we should be optimistic and undoubtedly try new experiments so as to achieve success.
Again it should be noted that it is the students of university that are going to be the future of tomorrow's nation so the best place where we can generate new ideas and innovate is at the university itself.

  78. I agree with what Anouchka says. Everything has a first time, the first time to sit for an exam, the first time to fall from a tree.
Life is full of adventures and risks. We should always try to vendor in the adventures and try out new stuffs though they are risky. We should always think positively because if we want to do something, we would surely be able to do it. Failures may produce but we should always persevere to reach our goal. Experience come from bad experiences. Those experiences make us strong enough to face any situations. New ideas should always be explored, though how stupid it might be seen because who knows it can be something really important and without exploration of new ideas there would have been nothing like discoveries and inventions. Who would have believed that other planets do exist, who would have believed that plants also have life, who would have believed we would be able to communicate with people all around the world unless researches have been done. Like that just think how much researches have been done but without any success but still scientists have not stop, they still persevere and try to invent things and discover things.

  79. Education is a lifelong process where one learns and experiences new things. Throughout his life, one continues to come across new things and knows to take the best of it. Indeed, students coming to the university are eager to learn more new things. So, it is somehow the duty of the teaching staff to introduce and propose new topics. In fact, one should not be afraid to embark on something new. If we do not dare, we will always how the doubt about whether it was going to be good or not. One thing that it sometimes useful to bear in mind is that many of the important discoveries made in the field of science or in any other sectors were achieved by people who were not afraid to try new experiments. So let us not be afraid to learn and achieve new things.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree with Melissa. Indeed, The examples she provided clearly points out that where there is a strong will, there is success. Nothing is impossible in life till we try for it. We actually must work hard for attaining specific goals in life. Take for instance, the blind student David Hayden, who had thought that he will be one of the fellow students to come out with the theory of Potable Swivel head camera. No one had imagined his capability. No one can gainsay beforehand what is right or wrong. In fact, that depends on the person’s hard work and the extent he/she willing to go to achieve the aim. That is the spirit today’s generation should be having.

  81. As my friend Ravi Luckhun said, life is an experiment. If we are not interested in trying, we would definitely make no discovery. Being myself a science student, I understand his point about the principle of always thinking of possibilities of further discoveries and try experiments during which we try to falsify our point of view. This concept makes us think about the improvements to be done so as not to repeat the same errors next time.

  82. I totally agree with he quote mentioned by waleed. Trying things that have never been done before can be scary probably due to the fear of facing failure or simply because of what other people might think of us. If we restrict ourselves to what we already know or have, this will certainly not lead us to achieve further. If some scientists did not contradict the fact that the earth is flat for fear of being seen as mad people, what would have happened nowadays? If our lecturers, who are our role models, are afraid to take risks, how would we, students, be encouraged to do so? Learning is a continuous process but routine exterminates creativity and innovation. The online educational technology module has brought a change in our student life, since pre-primary school we all are confined behind the walls of our classrooms and this had never changed until now. We have more time for ourselves as we do not have to attend lectures and our work can be done at ease. Trying out this online module enables students to be open-minded and we are given the opportunity to express our opinions freely. In order to move forward in life, we have to take risks and dare to do things even if criticism from others will try to stop us. Taking risks will help us achieve our goals.

Moreover, we are living in a world where there are perpetual changes and if we do not make up to it, therefore it will be impossible to catch up.

"As am a biology student, i believe, we would be like the cavemen at present if there was no creativity and innovation. Whether in educational, personal or professional life people should be encourage to be more creative and innovative, because new concepts can alter life and prevent from repetition of previous errors.

I totally agree with you, if scientists accepted whatever was told to them without trying to prove whether it is wrong or not, advances in many fields would not have been made possible. Restricting oneself to a particular mindset and being pessimist will not bring any progress. Taking risks and learning from our errors is the best way to move forward in life.

  86. This statement "to try out things that have never been done...” is a wonderful concept. In this way, we are able to develop more creativity skills. To be positive in life leads us to succeed in all fields. So why fear to move forward by trying out things that have never been done before??? It is said that we learn by making errors. We should therefore proceed to try out things that have never been done before so as to discover new things. Every single thing has to be tried- may that be in the laboratories or any elsewhere. Even in businesses, they are losses and gains. The University is indeed the right place to try to innovate things. Experiences are worthy in life whether they are proved as right or wrong.

  91. I totally agree with Ravi Luckhun who said that life is an experiment. In life we should always have the quest to discover and to try new things. If Benjamin Franklin in the 17th century has not been curious or hasn’t try to fly a kite during a thunderstorm, how would he had found that lightning and electricity were somehow related, which has further lead to other discoveries in electricity. I also agree to the fact that we should try first before conclude or condemn.

Some may say " i dont like to try new things because sometimes they could be risky." I cannot ignore that. However, there is nothing that never has a risk. Evolutions in the classrooms are encountered everyday and one should try to use technology for the betterment of one’s life. Technological changes should be challenged and used for more rapid prosperity of the country and the best place to experiment all of these is really at the university, which is another word for ‘change’.

  94. As human beings, we should not stop experiencing and discovering new things as there is still a lot for mankind to discover about the world.
Many leaders have developed their ideas into concepts at university level and I agree to the fact that the university is the most adequate place to carry out researches, to explore new ideas and apply new concepts. The initiative of launching of a new course at university should encourage both lecturers and students to discover a new subject to which they are not familiar with and thus further enhance their knowledge.

  97. I agree with what Ravi Luckhun said. In fact, Life is an experiment where there can be ups as well as downs. Taking risks is very important for the continuous development of our modern society. Such as the discovery of space, man should take risk whether good or bad. The decision of taking the risk to attempt something is just a step towards socio-economic progress, more than that its the positives or negatives drawbacks that would result from that decision, which will enable proper development. It is often said that we learn from our mistakes. But, how can we learn from our mistakes when there is no risks taken?.
However, putting the debate of risk taking in the context of the University is quite obsolete. Even if it is said that the University is independent, it depends also on other factors that permits its optimum functioning. For instance, the University depends partly on the finance allocation of the Government and this may be an obstacle whenever a decision should be taken.
Moreover, for a big organisation as the University, taking a simple risk decision at top level management may affect the lower level workers. Henceforth, good information systems should be used, such as the DSS, before taking any subsequent decisions. Putting this in the stated situation, before launching the course, there must be a field study among the students to see whether the course will be able to gain sufficient amount of students.
To conclude, i would say that, the hesitation for the University to launch new courses is comprehensible due to some factors that affects directly or indirectly the organisation.

  98. I agree with Sawar. One must really work hard with a proper mind set in order to make his/her dream comes true and also to achieve his/her goals in life. In addition, positive thinking can help us to achieve what we want in life but we should build on some ideas and put them into actions so that they can be concretized. Besides, by always thinking negatively wont helps us to achieve anything in life and we will always fail in what ever we try to do. Thus we should always believe in what we do and should innovate and always try out things that have never been done .

It is therefore important to have a clean and concise method by which we can evaluate and explore new ideas. If everyone coorperate and work for the same goal, success will definitely be achieved. If not, we can progress with the opinions and critical analysis of others. Everyone has a worldview, even if they wish to be completely objective. The question is to trust or not to trust. The only way to find the answer is to take the risk of trying.

Managing a university is no gamble, risking things is not easy as it may appear to be. To be honest, the staff's answer is not surprising to me because if you put yourself in the higher authorities shoes you would it is no easy thing to implement such a decision even if they want to. And Melissa I really liked the example you gave about the blind Math student David Hayden, this is what we call a noble action and it clearly illustrates the point you made.

  119. “Don't fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have.”

Therefore, we should never fear to try out new things in life, whether be in the education sector at the university level. We should not forget that at the university, we are surrounded with a group of experienced and highly qualified experts from different fields.
As learning never ends, we should always try out new and better means to make education simple and more enjoyable. As we are living in a modern life with the latest technology being developed, we should not apply the concept of “we have never done it before”. We should, instead encourage everyone to make that possible.

  120. I wholly agree with what you say friend Noorinah, the course I am taking at the UoM has clearly enhance my view upon people who choose to take risks in life. We use to call them entrepreneurs, as they have innovative ideas which they desire to realize. If we do not take such risk for our ideas, we will never know whether they were good or bad..

  121. I do not agree with the last part of the given situation which says: "This is not about resistance to change mind you, but this is mainly about obsolete software (mindset)."

I think that we must not bypass the psychological aspects of man behaviour concerning decision making. In fact, man by nature is reluctant to changes. A striking example, is the reluctance of old persons to move from the manual way of doing things to the use of technologies to ease there life.

It requires the guidance and the close monitoring of experts.

  123. Dear Akshay,

I agree with what you said. But look at the consequence of being afraid of trying; of fearing changes- The "university of Mauritius" is still lagging behind in many aspects. We talk about research week in UOM, when people "having authority" as you claim it are not ready to accept/adopt changes, then what's the use?

    Dear Akshita,

Changes in the environment we live in, is inevitable. It's not like " we will change", we HAVE to change. Otherwise, we will not be fit enough to live or even integrate this world.

We must be afraid of new things. Look at them as something very exciting, an adventure!

  126. We all want to broaden our creativity ……The university is meant to learn new things and taking the risk of trying new experiences. Not everything is successful at one go, place a product in a market, not everyone will be willing to purchase it. But with time it will gain acceptance. An English proverb says, "A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner." Everything is difficult before it becomes easy so we should try new things. Failure is the highway to success. Thus we should be open-minded and not have pre-conceived ideas to be able to advance in life. I totally agree with urvashy -‘If we do not try we will never progress’.

  127. The problem here is that people have no role models for the new activity.

Never underestimate the power of observational learning. My message is that if you see yourself as a change agent, you probably are something of a dreamer, someone who uses the imagination to create new possibilities that do not currently exist.

Well, most people don’t operate that way. It’s great to be a visionary, but communicating a vision is not enough. Get some people on board with your idea, so that you or they can demonstrate how the new way can work.

Dharvesh, I also agree on your statement that ‘’ From history we cannot deny the fact that major discoveries and new inventions have been carried out in universities all around the globe. ‘’

Infact, the university is a platform that must foster innovations that eventually becomes a trend.

  128. We have never done this before at the University......" This is typically the mindset that i want to disappear in our country.According to me,the bitter truth in Mauritius is that many of us are still conservative. But this way of thinking is outdated. I agree that at first, when trying new things, it's normal to be worried as we never know the impacts they will have and whether the consequences will be reversible or irreversible. But by proper planning and cautiously assessing the situation, one can only obtain positive results.
Our everyday life itself is based on evolution. And one must agree with me that life as it is today, is certainly not as it was some 20 years back..We should therefore not be afraid of trying new experiences. Because remember, progress can only be made with an open-mind and continuously evolving forms part of it.

Firstly, Trying new different things opens new doors in our mind and we can challenge to the time. People who want to try different things not only learn new things but also give benefits to their environments. Also knowledge means power and if you have power you can achieve what you want. Secondly, trying new things make people productive. If you look successful people, they always try new things and they always ready to make changing in their life. In conclusion, innovation and changing bring us success. Anyone can do mistakes but if you do not repeat mistakes, try different methods and try to change yourself, you can reach the success.

Let us suppose we always limit ourselves with the traditional way of teaching. Then someday when we have to step into a job, how will we be able to adapt to it? In fact, it is boring for the students as well as the lecturer to keep doing the same things all the time. There are uncountable things to explore and learn, so why not try them when you still have the chance. I admit launching a new course will involve several risks. Nevertheless, it is worth taking such risks since it builds our personality and hence, makes learning more exciting and lively.

While trying new things, learning may become less boring and makes it more interesting. Else its all a question of taking risk.

Whether it is a good or a bad experience, something have definitely been learned and based on this experience improvement can be made.

According to me, once there is a new idea, it must immediately be implemented if it found useful.

The statement of "we have never done this before" do not fit in here...

  139. I agree that university is a place to try out new things especially if the proposed change is expected to be constructive. Resistance to change is often a natural human behavior especially when the earlier way of doing things has been serving its purpose. Someone said that change is the only constant in life. Sharing this belief, I feel that although traditional methods have served their purpose, they should show flexibility in line with change.

In today's world according to entrepreneurship module, creativity and innovation play a great role. Changes in technology should be interesting for teachers. In life we should always try something new, so I don't think that in the case of the university case, it should pose any problems. We all know that trying something new will naturally involves a level of anxiety. But this should not act as a problem . 145. I agree with our friend Akshay that very few people like changes. They like remaining in the same environment. However, changes are necessary, mostly in universities. We cannot remain backward while others moves forward and we remain behind. We need also someone who will be able to take the responsibility of the changes appropriately.

  146. I totally agree with you that we are in a University and we have 'to try out things that have never been done before....'

BUT trying something new often requires courage.
I do not blame that staff because there exists in the human nature that man fears the unknown and are risk-averse. This is why maybe he/she reacted as such.. Maybe he/she fears on the behalf of students if we will be able to cope with changes and try completely new stuffs.

However, you can't change people. BUT you can educate them and change their opinion. you can facilitate their change and make guide them to feel easy about trying new stuffs and make them try to think out of the box.

And when you want to educate people about something, you have to do it with the utmost respect to whatever they are saying. Coming to people and accusing them of having a closed mind is not respectful.
You could had explained that staff and make that clear in his/her mind that:
Trying something new opens up the possibility for you to enjoy something new. You never know when you can suddenly discover a love for something you had no idea would capture your imaginations.
Trying something new keeps you from becoming bored. It helps you continually being challenged in some way. And it's not the new challenges. And he/she should be eager to take on that, representing his/her greatest opportunities for growth—And changing for the one you are not.
Trying something new forces you to grow. We don't ever grow from taking action we've always taken (the growth that enabled us to be able to take it has already occurred). Growth seems to require we take new action first, whether it's adopting a new attitude or a new way of thinking, or literally taking new action.

Thrusting yourself into new situations and facing it often brings unexpected benefits. This statement shows a lack of courage in him since he is not ready to get into the spirit of self challenge to welcome new ideas. Trying something new may change open up our mind and help us to adopt new attitudes and way of thinking. Repetitive routine tasks mostly lead to boredom, hence new opportunities in life are surely not to be missed but be rather taken with courage.

  156. When we have a new kind of experience that we cannot relate to an old one, then usually our initial impressions are of the strangeness of the experience. At first we only identify the big values, the big facts, the big feelings. This is because the new experience is too much to absorb in its totality. After a few repeat experiences, we begin to see the intermediate values, facts, feelings, etc. The highlights no longer dazzle us because we are growing accustomed to them. Then after still more experiences, we see even the small pieces of the picture. Now we can put everything into perspective and see how it all fits together. We have arrived at an adequate description of the experience. An adequate description is the first stage of understanding, and most people are content to go no further. The final stage is that of analysis : of contemplating causality and motivation and meaning.

New experiences indeed help us to grow even more mature, mentally especially.Allowing ourselves getting involved in new experiences will bring bring not only unexpected changes but will also broaden our mind.

I strongly believe that when a new concept is perceived, people should definitely give it a try; instead of thinking about the results beforehand. People should change their mindset, because we all agree that the University is the only place to come up with new courses. Added to this, the University staff should have realised that; once indulged in a new course people would be faced to new challenges, which would not only help them improve their academic peformances, but also help them gain maturity.

  161. Behind every inventions and discoveries there is a basic idea of someone who dares to try it and see what the outcomes will be. I completely agree with the second line which state that “we are at the university to try things that has never been done before”. But I firmly believe that the university helps the development of ideas brought by student if it make sense. Moreover some lecturers themselves are researchers at the university which work on meaningful ideas. Being pessimist and restricting to a particular mindset will prevent success.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I strongly agree to the statement that ‘When an idea makes sense it is worth exploring it, if it does not we abandon it’. Throughout the ages, trying new ideas have become necessary in all spheres of life. With time, we have witnessed so much progress and these would not have been fully satisfied without innovation. We should therefore keep on trying new ideas.
We are actually living in a digital age and I believe that innovation is inevitable so as to meet new challenges in society. In contrast, many people resist changes. On the face of it, this is profoundly illogical. When an idea appears realistic, even if it is being introduced for the first time, one should not turn his back. Instead, one should adopt a creative mind to have a deeper insight of the subject matter. People should not be risk averse when it comes to reforms within the education sector. In fact, the university is indeed a platform for stimulating our creative minds.
However, when we look at the other side of the coin, we cannot fail to realise that when trying new ideas, they will always bring about the desired end results. But these should be overlooked since the majority of them are beneficial. Moreover, the society as a whole will benefit from innovation.
It seems to be universally agreed that the inevitable progress of time and technologies makes the introduction of new ideas unavoidable. This is in line with the Creative Destruction Theory of Joseph Schumpeter (economist and political scientist) where he emphasized on innovation by saying that one should ‘adapt to changes’ by continuously engaging in activities which promote innovation or else he will ‘perish’.
In a nutshell, it can be concluded that trying out new ideas is something which has existed and will continue to exist as long as man exists on earth. We live in a dynamic world. Therefore innovation should be a welcome change and nobody can or should complain about it.

In my opinion, people should not be risk averse when it comes to reforms within the education sector. But it seems to be universally agreed that however beneficial change may be, it is not always beneficial. It is an undeniable fact that we are living in a dynamic world and man has to adapt to changes in his surroundings. I hold the firm conviction that ‘Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.’(Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr). Therefore, we should accept changes as they are and as for the non-beneficial changes, they can be overlooked since the majority of changes are beneficial.

  166. Universities are the gateway to a country’s success. New graduates are produced along with their new ideas and opinions. This success can be reached only when risks are taken and it involves challenging the unknown. Many researches, formerly thought to be crazy initiatives, have proved very successful when applied to reality and are now even adopted by the country’s state. Bringing about something fresh must therefore not be feared. However, if clear findings have not been gathered to prove a profitable implementation, much is not to be expected. For example, launching a new learning program may prove to be useless if no demand has been recorded for this specific course. On the other hand, if scope does exist for a brilliant suggestion it would be ineffectual not to try it out and bring about change and innovation.

  167.  I was fascinated by this article which highlights the fact that the University is the ideal place for Innovation. To some extent it appears more attention-grabbing to learn new-fangled things than being trained on what we already know, as hearing always ‘the same story’ is conspicuously tedious. Nevertheless, it can cause perplexity in our mind: instead of transcending our capabilities the latter can renovate us to a crazy being.

  168. “We have never done it before”, indeed by this phrase, everyone would be quite astonished to hear that from a staff member. As integrated member, such people should be aware that leaning does not take place only through lectures in a classroom but also by making great use of the benefits that technologies offer to us nowadays.
In today’s life, one thing to realize that we are always taking some degree of risks in whatever we are doing. I totally agree in your saying about exploring an idea when it makes sense. Each of us has particular talents that when expressed or exercised, can prove to be a very good and brilliant “idea”. One should not hesitate at enlarging his/her knowlegde about something because there is no end in learning new things in life whether it is right or wrong. In fact that is why we say that education is a lifelong process!!If we feel that an idea make sense, we must continue to dig deeply for searching and put it in practice. However if such idea prove to be bad, it is GOOD TO POINT that it is through mistakes that people learn more efficiently, like we say” one have to experience something in life to know really what it is”. When we know the “Why” it is easier to see how we can become fulfilled through the work we do. It is when we “give a try”, that we are able to succeed and prosper in the right path.

It brings optimism into your life, and makes it easier to avoid worry and negative thinking. If you adopt it as a way of life, it will bring constructive changes into your life, and makes them happier, brighter and more successful. With a positive attitude you see the bright side of life, become optimistic and expect the best to happen. It is certainly a state of mind that is well worth developing and strengthening. Negativity will only distance us from our goals and we should not allow this.We have to struggle through negative thinking to be successful in life because negativity will always be here to block our path. All discoveries were made by accidents, thus we must try to do something on our own, in order, to learn new things. As we say, To dare is to do. Thus,we must not wait for others to show or teach us something. In this new era, you should trust only yourself and move on.
Always keep this in mind..“Don't fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things.

I totally agree with the fact you mentioned that education never ends and we shall always try new things. If we don’t try, we are never going to achieve more. We must never be afraid to try new things. It is better to try something and fail rather than try nothing and regret.
Upgrading our educational system would really be more creative and interesting.

  178. Extending to the fact that due to the sudden evolution of Education technology many people complexities have decreased thereby,i agree to what Nushrut said.Education Technology has indeed enhance its importance over time. Also, promoting creativity which is one of its aim.

  179. I think that university gives a student the opportunities to be creative and discover new horizons of technological developments. However, one should keep in mind that while discussing on new topics it should be kept into consideration that whatever new discoveries are being explored it should be in benefit of the tutors and students.

  180. Universities should in fact be the place people don’t fear to come up with interesting ideas which could change something in our society. Having visited many Universities websites, I can say that this is usually something on which the Administration relies to attract students as students wants to have an environment where they can fully express themselves without considering the nature of the way. Universities should be a platform where students and even lecturers and academics feel comfortable to go for the extra mile, if the University does not provide such an environment, I don’t see where we would be able to find something like that.

  181. Exploring a new horizon is indeed a task that demands perseverance and great determination in order to be accomplished. We cannot expect to remain idle and see things to evolve around us. I strongly believe in trying or experimenting new concepts. It is only trough an optimistic point of view that we can achieve results. The results and consequences may be positive as well as negative, but the most crucial aspect is that at least we have give it a try. It is sad to see that at the University where it is supposedly to be like a "Temple of Knowledge", but also where new discoveries can be made both by he students and the lecturers, we are having such mindsets. I firmly conceive that an idea must not remain dormant or stagnant because if we give it a small ponder then perhaps it can become a great help for individuals.

    @ RAVI LUKHUN:

I completely agree with you. Life is about taking risks and it is only then we will know whether it was worth it or not. If we don’t try something, we’ll never come to know whether it was good or bad and whether we would have liked it or not.

Also as you pointed out, “If we were always scared to experiment in new fields, discoveries wouldn’t have been done and life wouldn’t have existed as it is. Airplanes would not have been existed! ”

Thus all discoveries owe their existence due to risk-taking. We have to be open-minded and creative and be able to take new challenges in life. Then only we’ll get experiences, be it good or bad and thereby learning from our past.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Yessssss. This is exactly the mindset that we need to have in order to move forward in life. There is no room for improvement if the word improvement didn't exist in the first place. Open-mindedness breeds creativity. Unfortunately few people realize this and their creativity is lost somewhere along the path to grandeur. Intelligence is all that remains; intelligence, which is unfortunately only used to speak the words of greater men. Innovative learning can only be achieved through innovation, and only he can innovate who 'tries things which have never been done'.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I think that life is worth living it to the maximum.. So if an idea is dear to someone then he must definitely go for it whether its right or wrong.. no one should stop someone from living his dream and innovating.. life is full of mistakes and it is those mistakes that makes life perfect!

  185. @ Zabeen

I totally agree with you, well said. research work, data gathering and evaluation is essential before implementing an idea.

  186. The university has the purpose to serve as a platform for the students as well as the lectures and other staff to express themselves in a productive way. Any innovative idea which is constructive and in the welfare of the people at the university should b taken into account. creativity is something that never dies and we should never restrict our mind. in any situation we should always have an open minded perspective.

  187. In this article it clearly shows that management or administration is not ready to take up any risks concerning a new experience with fear of either loss or disappointment. As any new experiment, uncertainties, drawbacks and benefits as well will exist. however one must not back out as one never knows what the project has in future. If by doing so, new things are learned, which will be to the benefit of both the learner and the teacher then it is worth the effort.

  188. From my point of view, the author of this article is completely right that a university is really a place where new things should be experienced. In fact, I think that nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely.
Nowadays, at the paste at which the world is evolving, experimenting new things has become, I really think part of everyday life. So, if a new course is being implemented at a university, it is in fact, a good initiave because it is not only encouraging students towards different fields but it is also helping the country by producing professionals in various fields. For instance, maybe long ago, a huge sum of money was being spent by the government in order to recruit professionals from abroad to work for our country.
So, experimenting new things is certainly risky but there is nothing wrong in trying and thus, learning from our mistakes. In this way, we surely improve our capabilities.
The one, who only criticize by saying that if we have not done something before we should try it, then he must realize that if scientists long ago (and even now) have not taken that risk such improvement in the medical field would have never been done!
So, try to have a positive mind set while being realistic and try to perfection yourself by experiencing new things!

  189. When I read this statement, I can’t refrain myself to voice out loudly, “Hey guys! We are at university level. Wake up! Like stated in the blog “We are in a University and this is exactly the place according to me 'to try out things that have never been done before....”
Man needs to experience new things and he is by nature an explorer. Just imagine a toddler, he/she discriminating and experiencing new things in his/her immediate surroundings which are important for his/her development.
“When an idea makes sense it is worth exploring it, if it does not we abandon it”. This statement is very strong as it put forward that not only a person by nature has to pursue his/her idea but also he/she has the responsibility to stop everything when he/she feels that the limit has been achieved and that going beyond may have a negative impact.
However, the reticence mindset is prevalent not only at the University but also in many organizations in Mauritius. We work with people with different objectives and often it is difficult to convince them to accept an idea. People are less enthusiastic to change and it may take months or even years to convince them to accept an idea, as they fear to get additional workload by trying new things, unless they can take out benefits from it.

  190. Yeah. I agree with the text. Any person would have been stunned because the main reason we go to the university is to learn new things. If we have an information which is not clear to us, we must search and elaborate on it to be able to increase our knowledge in the modern world. To be successful in life, everyone should make their own effort and in the end reap the benefits.

  193. In the above comments, someone mentioned that, if the ones who created airplanes had not followed their visions, we would still be travelling by boats....how true..!!!
if someone's vision of the past is helping us so much today, in the present, so why not follow our own vision and see if we can help tomorrow's world..

i agree with you. life is not simply existing! we must live, we must feel, we must experience! and unless we are not trying new things, we are merly existing. we must take chances! we must make efforts. we must set a goal and find innovative ways to do it. thats what makes a difference between the common and the special.

  196. An idea makes you blind. Once you got your idea you will probably fall in love with it. That's a great feeling indeed. But love makes blind, unfortunately. The psychological phenomenon of selective perception will make you see only the positive points of the idea and only listen to people who are supporting you. And in trying to realize the idea you will run in 80 percent of the cases into a hard wall, which will wake you up. Not having an alternative available to realize your personal challenge.

  197. The statement “we have never done it before” can be very inspiring if we take it in a positive way. Today, we have so many facilities around us; personal computers, washing machines, television set, mobile phones… This is a proof that we have now achieved such a position which was once considered as a dream. We have invented things that are considered as miracles. As the statement goes “where there is a will, there is a way’, and the word ‘impossible’ itself suggests, “I’m possible”, we just have to start visualizing things with a new perspective. We just have to take a look at the back, at the present and the future. The inspiration will come automatically from this ‘we have never done this before!” statement.

  199. From my point of view, i don't really agree with Amiirah. Life is not made to take risks and the outcomes of our actions should be viewed as a lesson for the future. The outcomes will determined whether it was worth trying or not. At some point, i agree at the fact that maturity and knowledge is experienced through a risk-taken idea or chance. But doing something risky so as to put someone's life in danger or even break somebody's heart can prove to be very harmful.

I totally agree with Ravi when he says, “life is like an experiment where we have to try new things in order to make new discoveries. Many scientist in the world work on the basis that "we have never done it before” so why not try it and see the results!” It true to say that it has been a practice for ages and without making assumptions any hypotheses cannot be confirmed! Moreover, one cannot make a judgment because he is a pessimist by nature. So, you are right when you are saying that this might hinder the progress of humanity.
