The VCILT participated in a project with Commonwealth of Learning, the NPCC, Ministry of Tertiary Education and Ministry of Gender Equality... to develop interactive video lectures in the Creole Language. Two prototypes have been released.
The first one is legal literacy for women and the second one is on business plan development. The Hon Minister Jeetah and the President of COL praised the work of the VCILT. The President of COL, Sir John Daniel also told one radio that VCILT is a very useful asset for the country in its endeavour to launch its Open University.
You can find Minister's Jeetah's thoughts on the event here. http://rajeshjeetah.blogspot.com/2011/05/launching-of-lifelong-learning-for.html
Supporting entrepreneurship in the developing world has long been considered one of the best approaches to "teach people to fish" and build sustainable local economies. In recent years, studies by the United Nations, World Bank, and others have shown that women entrepreneurs are more likely to contribute to community development than men, and are therefore better candidates for support programs. Several policies and programs are being implemented for the development of women entrepreneurship. Many programs have focused on providing access to capital, building needed infrastructure, and revising legal and regulatory requirements to make business ownership a more viable option. While these factors are critically important for entrepreneurs to thrive, there is one more issue that successful programs need to address: building an entrepreneurial culture. Providing business education and entrepreneurial training is often the central component of economic development programs, and is essential to successful efforts. Many training programs focus on teaching women the technical skills needed specially the usage of technology as a driver for learning and knowledge dissemination, at a time where everyone is a user of a mobile phone and internet is becoming more widespread to operate a specific business. The hallmark of a successful program is that it offers support to the entrepreneur instead of just to her business. Program elements such as peer support groups, mentoring partnerships, and community outreach provide a nurturing social environment for fledgling entrepreneurs. I praised the work of the VCIL for its initiative to help the education of women and entrepreneurship through innovative technologies. Lastly, we must encourage all sectors of society to work together to achieve the development of our society in an inclusive manner.
ReplyDeleteWomen entrepreneurship has expressed itself as an economic actively mainly through the Small and Medium enterprises sector. Women entrepreneur can improving their skills and way of working with the help of training through Innovative Technologies, specifically those who are less or uneducated. This training can change the world of a woman.Women entrepreneurship makes a significant contribution to GDP, employment creation, economic empowerment and poverty reduction. Providing women entrepreneur with training through Innovative Technologies, the VCIL should pa praised for that.
ReplyDeleteWith Reference to "Pooja's" comment, I fully agree that this will not only further empower women but affect positively affect the economy as a whole, furthermore because of the nature of the learning method, it can easily be carried out from home which is especially convenient to women with children.

ReplyDeleteLaunching the Lifelong learning process for women empowerment is indeed a very important thing. The VCILT has really help in providing essential tools to women entrepreneurs in order for them to develop their capabilities and efficiency in the field of entrepreneurship. This training program through Innovative Technologies will not only help these ladies develop their skills and learn more but will also help them achieve a better understanding about information technology which is nowadays an essential tool in our everyday life.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed very true what you said pooja….the training program through Innovative Technologies will surely change the women entrepreneurs’ life in a way specially the ones not very educated. Additionally, everyone knows that nowadays much importance is given to women entrepreneurship thus it is essential for us to provide these people with the different tools they need in order for them to express themselves through their creative and innovative ideas.
ReplyDeleteDear Pooja, I support fully what you have written on women entrepreneurship. This technology can help both women and the country also.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very good thing to empower women by the use of interactive video lectures in the Creole Language. It will be easier for women, especially those who are less or uneducated, to learn how to do business in this simple way .As a result women can contribute to ameliorate their own standard of living.
ReplyDeleteIn brief it is justified that the Hon Minister Jeetah praises VCILT work’s due to the positive impact that it has on the country. That is, it is a tool that can help to reduce poverty in Mauritius.
Who says legal literacy for women says empowerment. Though the term has been formerly used for the poor and the oppressed, it is now being used extensively for women’s programs. Women entrepreneurship is proving to be a great asset for the Government of Mauritius. Through the National Women Entrepreneurship Council (NWEC), poverty is being alleviated. This is also helping in the economy of the country, since women have potentials, skills such as artisanal capabilities that can be further exploited. Education also plays an important role in the women empowerment program. It will be easier for individuals with little or no education at all to understand concepts of entrepreneurship and professional development by making use of interactive video lectures in the Creole language. Thus, strengthening their educational capabilities and outreach.
ReplyDeletePooja is absolutely right when she says that through the Small and Medium enterprise sector, women can hone in their skills and capabilities. Through the Innovative technologies, the entrepreneurship training can greatly help women to become financially independent, and thus they can contribute to the economy of the country. Hence, it is of utmost importance to implement this training programme fro a better future for women, and for our country as well.
ReplyDeleteWomen In society have always been considered as weakest until most recently support programs and development have been set up to promote their importance and sense of innovation in business planning. Those women, especially in the lower and lower-middle class might find their dream of becoming entrepreneurs more achievable through support programs offered by the government.
ReplyDeleteEducational measures, through the use of the Creole language are straightforward as compared to the use of English and French in lectures. The use of Creole language is often used in primary schools to endorse the understanding of youngsters for subjects such as Mathematics and Science. The same system might be used for illiterate women. However learning via the Creole language is bound to have some limits especially if our language of origin is English. If those women enter the labor market in future years, they shall be relevant to having knowledge of at least 3 languages: Creole, French and English. If the two latter are not learned, how would they cope with interviews, business issues and so on? That is the question!
Personally, I think that video learning is easier than any other because the mind through vision and hearing capture more information than through writing. Maybe it’s psychological but I detain video music notes more easily than my lecture notes. Further, I think that education via Creole language seems inappropriate. It might be used for basics such as Mathematics but not for Business planning where most of them would be bound to cope with administration issues (English or French) in the future.
Women for long have been considered as being fit for only household work, while the man, being the male dominant will bring in money.
ReplyDeleteBut this is no longer the case. Women have stood against time and have proved themselves graciously by becoming part of not only the economic development of their country but also, financially.
Women's development is mainly due to the training and literacy facilities offered to them which help them stand on their own and be independent.
Through innovative technologies, they will not only be able to learn fast but it will also help them know the actuality of what is going on in the world and be part of today's generation.
Modern ways of improving their small and medium enterprises will help them become more confident and hence, progress even more. This will benefit both the female gender but also the country.
I'm so glad that I'm born in a century where women are treated as the same as men. but we must agree that almost all the jobs that are currently available fits more to men that to women; not in term of competencies but in term of time management. most of them work with countries overseas which means odd hours. a single women can do it, but for a married one with kids this will be almost impossible. so that's why more and more women tend to create their own business in order to have a flexible time work which will enable them to have a family together with a job. so they develop themselves professionally and personally. women should not have to choose between career and family. so having access to such facilities namely legal literacy for women and business plan in creole, will enable them to accomplish their dream much more easily. we must be aware that a lot of women has not gone to school. so having these in creole is another way to encourage them. by encouraging women entrepreneur, we are indeed helping families financially, which means more money will be available in the family specially for the poor ones and so help them to send their children to school which further more will help them to get out of poverty.by decreasing poverty, we are also improving our economy. women have all capacities as men, they just need to have the opportunity to do it.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good initiative taken by the government, the VCILT and other people who concerned with it.
ReplyDeletewomen are treated as the same as men but they can't do the work just men do.
This interactive video lectures in creol language will really help women to faced difficulty in the future and enable them to do planning for their future business, to be innovative in their work and sustain to the economic of our country. This project is useful in such a way that women can know their legal literacy and rights.
I totally agree to Pooja who has given a deep thought about women entrepreneurship. They are our future leader of our country. Due to them they do small/medium enterprises which contribute to our economic empowerment and GDP. More women work the less poverty in our country.
